Stay. Create. Slow Down.
Accommodation at Ouland Farm is more than a place to sleep. It’s an invitation to step away from routine and spend time immersed in the rhythms of a working farm.
Whether you’re booking a quiet weekend away, joining a workshop or spending time as a resident artist or chef, your stay becomes part of life on the farm.
Our private cottage offers a quiet retreat overlooking the Ouland Farm valley. Designed for two guests, it provides a comfortable base from which to experience life on a working farm.
Guests are welcome to explore the farm, walk the surrounding trails, enjoy seasonal Shepherd & Salt dining experiences or sample Garda Artisan Cheese, and purchase farm produce during their stay.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful weekend away or adding accommodation to a workshop experience, the cottage offers a slower pace of life rooted in nature.
Each year, Ouland Farm hosts a small number of Creative and Culinary Residencies, awarded through a selective application process.
Culinary Residencies take place during the summer season, inviting emerging chefs to live and work on the farm while developing seasonal menus for Shepherd & Salt using ingredients from our gardens, dairy and surrounding producers. Residents lead four lunch services each week, with the remaining time dedicated to research, preparation and creative development.
Creative Residencies are offered throughout the remainder of the year for artists, writers, photographers, designers and makers seeking uninterrupted time to create in a quiet working farm environment. Residents are encouraged to draw inspiration from the landscape and, where appropriate, work with natural materials found on the farm, including raw Merino wool, clay and other seasonal elements.
Every residency is individually tailored and includes accommodation, seasonal farm produce and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rhythms of life on Ouland. We see each residency as a creative exchange—an opportunity to develop meaningful work while leaving a lasting contribution to the story of Ouland.
Our workshops celebrate traditional craftsmanship through hands-on, small-group experiences on Ouland Farm. Whether you’re joining us for a day or a more immersive experience, every workshop is centred around learning by doing.
Breadmaking and fresh pasta workshops are offered as one-day experiences, while cheesemaking workshops are available as both introductory one-day courses and more extensive private workshops for those wanting to explore the craft in greater depth.
Surfboard shaping workshops are individually tailored and provide the opportunity to build your own handcrafted surfboard under Jurie’s guidance.
All workshops can be booked privately or as group experiences, making them ideal for families, friends, team-building events and year-end functions. Workshops are primarily hosted during the summer season and can be combined with accommodation, seasonal dining experiences and other activities on the farm.
The cottage also forms the base for many of the experiences offered on the farm.
It is used as the accommodation for:
Cheese-making workshops
Gonzo surfboard shaping workshops
Seasonal and culinary residencies
Private events
(where accommodation can be included as part of a broader booking)
The space is stocked with a selection of farm produce – including fresh eggs, raw milk, and Garda Artisan Cheese – offering a simple, honest introduction to what is made on the farm.
Guests also have the opportunity to pre-book a Shepherd & Salt dining experience or tastings, subject to availability and season.
Being a working farm, the experience is real and unfiltered.
You may hear the early rhythm of the cheesemaking process, encounter animals moving through the landscape, or notice the changing conditions of the land – all part of life on Ouland Farm.
For those who wish to explore, the surrounding area offers access to farm walks, cycling routes, and nearby coastline – with Vleesbaai beach just a short drive away.
